Roots Blues & Other Stuff

Duncan Campbell Duncan Campbell
Roots Blues and Other Stuff - a look at contemporary blues, all the way back to its origins and the music that was created along the way.

Duncan is an accomplished musician himself with a vast knowledge of the blues and roots genre. So check out his programme on Thursday evenings at 9pm.

This is what Duncan had to say for himself:

"First-born to a beautiful singer and a handsome pilot in the years following the Second Great Unpleasantness, I thrived on National Health orange juice, Haliborange tablets, Allen & Hanbury’s Blackcurrant Pastilles and grew to reach the splendid height of six foot, five and a half inches. Not being blessed with a giant intellect to match nor my parents’ looks, I cultivated a creative leaning and, following the path pioneered by many of British Blues' glitterati, headed off to art college to serve a musical apprenticeship. Many years, many careers and several children later, I washed up on the fertile shores of Seahaven FM where the Chief Executive, Mr Nick Mallinson, quickly spotted that my height gave me great potential as an aerial holder. After some weeks of being wedged sideways into an empty corner to achieve maximum transmission potential, I was permitted to take short breaks to make tea for Mr Vanburger and Mr Evans, two of our more senior broadcasters. Learning at the feet of the venerable silver-haired masters, my potential for cluttering up the studio with my gangly frame quickly led to pressure to get me out from under their feet. The only safe solution was to give me my own show and so, diving into relatively uncharted waters for Seahaven FM, the idea for Roots, Blues and Other Stuff was born.

The premise is a simple one. The roots of today’s popular music lie in the folk, blues and vaudeville traditions of the past. Those traditions still live all over the world and musical influences now spread more freely and rapidly across the globe, courtesy of the World Wide Web. I choose to mine this rich seam across time and space and to share this exciting wealth with you all. I like to feature guests, performers and non-performers with local connections, and explore their personal musical roots. Every show is an exciting journey, rarely unwinding as planned. Join me, every Thursday, between 9pm and 11pm."
