The Eastbourne Half is very much a community event and is most definitely aimed at runners of all abilities. We as organisers are just as excited at seeing the last person finish as we are the first, so why not set yourself the challenge for 2017. Get out your running shoes and get training.

Once again we are very grateful to Reid + Dean, the Eastbourne Hospitality Association, all our various sponsors and supporters and especially to our all stewards and marshals who help on the day. This is a thankless but very necessary task and gathering a large enough team of marshals is always one of the most difficult aspects to organising the event. So please if you or anyone you know could spare some time on the morning please do volunteer.

Entries are now open by post or online, so sign up now and we look forward to seeing you in March, on no doubt another beautiful spring morning!!

An illustrated talk by Steve Homewood.

Local naturalist and photographer Steve Homewood has spent the last 4 years observing and trying to understand the strange and spectacular phenomenon of the River Ouse's population of Thin Lipped Grey Mullet. In the spring they congregate in their hundreds, in full view from the bank, at the fresh water outlet of the Winterbourne stream beside the Railway Land Local Nature Reserve. This culminated in a BBC TV Springwatch feature last year and a discovery that surprised everyone.

Steve will be giving an illustrated talk and stunning display of underwater photographs, which should coincide with this year's appearance of these mysterious creatures.

Fire and Ice Walk!

Time: 5:30pm - 9:30pm
Where: St Wilfrid's Hospice, 1 Broadwater Way BN22 9PZ
Town: Hampden Park, Eastbourne

Phone: 01323 434 241

Looking for a way to challenge yourself? Then put your best foot forward this spring for St Wilfrid's, as you dare to bare your soles to the elements. For an exhilarating experience, either walk across hot coals or cold, sterile broken glass OR take on both if you dare.

Defy the limits of what you thought was possible and raise money for the hospice at the same time.

Both sponsored walks are run by Time4Change, a training and events company based in Nottingham. For over three decades instructor Cliff Mann has safely guided thousands of people from all walks of life over hot coals and broken glass. Your feet are in safe hands.

It is important to bear in mind that there is no illusion or 'trick' to fire-walking or glass-walking. No special materials are used and nor are you hypnotised or put into any altered state of consciousness.

Fire walk - £25
Ice walk - £35
Do both - £50

Please be aware that the registration fee covers the cost of the event itself, so we really need you to aim high with your fundraising and try to collect a minimum of £150 from sponsors to help the hospice.

A very touching and beautiful documentary about life, love, loss, despair, redemption. The film is basically divided into two parts, with Wenders telling us about Salgado's life while Salgado talks about his photographs. The beautiful photos tell a troubling yet touching story and are the absolute highlight of the film. Seeing the images while listening to Salgado explain them, is the heart and soul of the film.

By the end you will find yourself believing again and hoping that one day you could change the world. An uplifting and beautiful film.

In a remote Icelandic farming valley, two brothers who live a few hundred metres from each other but haven't spoken to each other for 40 years. They communicate, if necessary, by writing letters which are carried from one house to the other by a sheepdog. When their flocks of expertly bred sheep are diagnosed with a deadly disease, their lives are turned upside down. Rams is one of those little gems that deserved to make it to win the foreign language Oscars, but was not selected for the final shortlist. That's a pity as it is a facinating movie well worth seeing.

In the 1960s, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson struggles with emerging psychosis as he attempts to craft his avant-garde pop masterpiece Pet Sounds. In the 1980s, he is a broken, confused man under the 24-hour watch of shady therapist Dr. Eugene Landy. For the most part, this movie, a smart, compassionate, refreshingly unconventional biopic that makes good on both promises, exploring the mental world and the artistic method of a great artist. It's a loving tribute to the Beach Boys and the man responsible for their distinctive sound, but it goes to deeper and stranger places than most movies of its kind.

This is family trauma where three girls have been abandoned by their mother after their father left for another woman. The Koda sisters have been brought up by their maternal grandparents. When the movie begins, their grandparents are long gone and the girls have been living in the family house and taking care of themselves. They hear that their father has died and have to attend his funeral, where they meet their half-sister, 15-year-old Suzu for the first time. It is how the sisters interact with their new sibling that makes this tale a wonderful movie.
