I, Daniel Blake is the product of over two years' embedded research investigating and interviewing those who have dropped through the cracks of the British welfare system. Following a heart attack, Loach's 59 year old protagonist, Daniel Blake, can't return to work, yet is denied the financial benefits necessary to support him during his convalescence. Based in Newcastle, this film follows the story, synonymous with thousands of other cases in the North as well as the South of England, of Blake's struggle, not only for enough economic support to retain a barely subsistence level of food and shelter in order to live, but also that of the constant denial of basic human compassion.

This film is screened courtesy of Entertainment One and Sixteen Films

In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto the dingy British streets. It was the essence of all that was cool. It was Mod. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant culture. They were working-class free spirits who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or Lambrettas.

The sharpest Mod of all was known as a 'FACE'.

The Small Faces encapsulated all that is Mod, a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat, clothes obsessed and street-wise. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their dedication to Rhythm 'n' Blues. This 'Mod' Musical is a trans-generational musical experience celebrating the unique sound of the iconic Mod band, The Small Faces.

Featuring the music of the Small Faces, including an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Lazy Sunday, Tin Soldier, Sha La La La Lee, Itchycoo Park and of course All Or Nothing.

It's Brighton, 1963. Skiffle bands, East-End Gangsters, an 87 year old waiter with balance problems and one man with two needy bosses are set on a collision course in this frenetic comedy.

From the National Theatre 'One Man Two Guvnors' went on to dominate the West End and Broadway; now this exquisite British comedy makes its Eastbourne Premiere for a perfect slice of irrepressible fun this summer.

A dash of pantomime, a whiff of music hall and a dollop of lunacy combine in this ludicrous plot with music, physical comedy and one-liners in a veritable tour de 'farce'.

Based on the classic Italian comedy, 'The Servant of Two Masters' by Carlo Goldoni and adapted by Richard Bean, with original songs and music by Grant Olding.

First 2 nights £19 all seats (no concessions/discounts apply), Monday - Thursday Evenings £19, £20, £22.50, £24.50; Friday & Saturday Evenings £19, £21, £24.50, £26.50; Wednesday Matinee (2.30pm) £19 all seats; Saturday Matinee (also 2.30pm) £19, £22.

When the movie begins, their grandparents are long gone and the girls have been living in the family house and taking care of themselves. They hear that their father has died and have to attend his funeral, where they meet their half-sister, 15-year-old Suzu for the first time. Translated from French, this is set in an isolated chalet in the French Alps. It is a gripping psychological thriller concerning a man who has apparently lost his wife, and is rapidly losing his mind. Time: 10:00am
Where: Hampden Park BN22 9QN
Town: Eastbourne

A brilliant and brand new event for Eastbourne this year arrives with possibly up to 25 hot air balloons visiting Hampden Park. A first for the South East.

The balloons will fly at dawn and dusk on Saturday and at dawn on Sunday - weather permitting of course.

Helicopters will open the festival on Saturday morning with the High Sheriff of Sussex. The helicopters will then be available to get up close and personal, and to talk to the pilots.

A stage of live local entertainment will play 11am - 9pm on the Saturday and 11am - 5pm on the Sunday.

At 9pm on the Saturday evening, there will be a spectacular NightGlow show, with the balloons inflated, tethered and firing their main burners to the music conducted by their musical director.

Fireworks close the Saturday show - finishing about 10pm.

This event is much more than just a hot air balloon festival: there are demonstrations, markets, competitions and more.

The food area will hold a wide selection of outlets and drink plus other BBQ's around the field. An elegant cream tea will be served on the lawn down to the lake on both afternoons.

A floral marquee with demonstrations and competitions on both days and a Gardeners' Question Time session on at least the Saturday.

An annual dog show will also feature.

A classic car show featuring 100 cars from a local club will parade each day in their arena.

There is a children's play area, miniature steam trains, face painting, bouncy castles and much more. Best of all, it's completely free.

Magnus Volk and his Railway at Brighton. Speaker: Ian Gledhill

Ian Gledhill had a varied career including TV, theatre, engineering, travel and tourism. He now divides his time between giving lectures and as Chairman and a driver for the Volk's Electric Railway. Magnus Volk (1851-1937) was a pioneer British electrical engineer. He is most notable for having built Volk's Electric Railway, the world's oldest extant electric railway. He also built the unique, but short lived, Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway, together with its unusual Daddy Long Legs vehicle.
