We are delighted to be able to present for our Spring Production this year "Ladies In Lavender" adapted for stage by Shaun McKenna, from a screenplay by the actor Charles Dance, based on a short story by William J Locke. This play was only released for amateur drama groups last year so we are really pleased to be one of the first local societies producing this play.

The story involves two sisters who rescue a young man from the beach by their Cornish home and take him into their rather dull lives.

Tamsin Greig is Malvolia in a new twist on Shakespeare's classic comedy of mistaken identity.

A ship is wrecked on the rocks. Viola is washed ashore but her twin brother Sebastian is lost. Determined to survive on her own, she steps out to explore a new land. So begins a whirlwind of mistaken identity and unrequited love.

The nearby households of Olivia and Orsino are overrun with passion. Even Olivia's upright housekeeper Malvolia is swept up in the madness. Where music is the food of love, and nobody is quite what they seem, anything proves possible.

Million Dollar Quartet, written by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux, brings that legendary night to life, featuring a score of rock hits including Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, That's All Right, Sixteen Tons, Great Balls of Fire, Walk the Line, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, Who Do You Love?, Matchbox, Folsom Prison Blues, Hound Dog and many more.

Date: Monday 24 April 2017
Time: 7:45pm
Where: Theatre Royal, New Road BN1 1SD
Town: Brighton
Phone: 0844 871 7650

When a group of young girls are discovered dancing in the woods trying to conjure spirits, the God-fearing people of a small New England town are told the devil and witchcraft is in their midst and must be rooted out at all costs. The town is quickly caught up in an unstoppable flow of paranoia, indictment and manipulation as personal grievances collide with lust and superstition creating a crucible of suspicion where no person is safe from his neighbour.

This bold new production of The Crucible starring Charlie Condou (Coronation Street), as the witch hunter, Reverend Hale and Victoria Yeates (Call the Midwife), the falsely accused Elizabeth Proctor, serves as a stark and chilling reminder of the frailty of reason in the face of hysteria and the terrifying power of false accusations.

The Crucible is an ageless allegory of morality, a scorching indictment of fanaticism, and the most powerful central work of American drama.

Alistair Beaton's provocative new comedy takes us to an idyllic English village threatened by an energy company intent on drilling for shale gas. Anne Reid plays Elizabeth, a retired academic who finds herself transformed from obedient citizen to angry protestor. While her increasingly grumpy husband (James Bolam) longs for the quiet life, Elizabeth soars to fame via social media. Desperate to get planning permission, hard-nosed PR men team up with a corrupt local councillor to persuade the villagers that fracking is a good thing. Elizabeth's having none of it, and mounts the barricades...

The cast includes James Bolam as Elizabeth's husband Jack, whose credits include New Tricks (BBC) and Glengarry Glen Ross (Donmar Warehouse, Olivier nomination). Anne Reid plays Elizabeth. She is acclaimed for her many award-winning roles including Hedda Gabler (Old Vic) and Last Tango in Halifax (BBC). They are joined by Michael Simkins, known for his many TV and West End roles, most recently Yes, Prime Minister and HayFever.

In a remote Icelandic farming valley, two brothers who live a few hundred metres from each other but haven't spoken to each other for 40 years. They communicate, if necessary, by writing letters which are carried from one house to the other by a sheepdog. When their flocks of expertly bred sheep are diagnosed with a deadly disease, their lives are turned upside down. Rams is one of those little gems that deserved to make it to win the foreign language Oscars, but was not selected for the final shortlist. We meet once a month, on a Sunday morning (always the 3rd Sunday of the month) between 10am and noon. We have litter grabbers and bags generously provided by Newhaven Port Properties. In the 1960s, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson struggles with emerging psychosis as he attempts to craft his avant-garde pop masterpiece Pet Sounds. In the 1980s, he is a broken, confused man under the 24-hour watch of shady therapist Dr. Eugene Landy. For the most part, this movie, a smart, compassionate, refreshingly unconventional biopic that makes good on both promises, exploring the mental world and the artistic method of a great artist. It's a loving tribute to the Beach Boys and the man responsible for their distinctive sound, but it goes to deeper and stranger places than most movies of its kind.

In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto the dingy British streets. It was the essence of all that was cool. It was Mod. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant culture. They were working-class free spirits who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or Lambrettas.

The sharpest Mod of all was known as a 'FACE'.

The Small Faces encapsulated all that is Mod, a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat, clothes obsessed and street-wise. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their dedication to Rhythm 'n' Blues. This 'Mod' Musical is a trans-generational musical experience celebrating the unique sound of the iconic Mod band, The Small Faces.

Featuring the music of the Small Faces, including an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Lazy Sunday, Tin Soldier, Sha La La La Lee, Itchycoo Park and of course All Or Nothing,

This is family trauma where three girls have been abandoned by their mother after their father left for another woman. The Koda sisters have been brought up by their maternal grandparents. When the movie begins, their grandparents are long gone and the girls have been living in the family house and taking care of themselves. They hear that their father has died and have to attend his funeral, where they meet their half-sister, 15-year-old Suzu for the first time. It is how the sisters interact with their new sibling that makes this tale a wonderful movie.

Doors open 6pm, cafe open for members and refreshments, meal and drink from £6.50.
